CELEBRATING TRACY'S SOON-TO-BE BABY BOY!

In much anticipation of Tracy Andriski's upcoming birth of a baby boy in November, we all enjoyed a great in-house celebration, with loads of baby gifts and food to eat. Tracy is thrilled  that they are now having a little boy, as their first child is a girl. Jean O'Rourke, our Personal Account Manager, loves making and decorating  specialty cakes, and whipped up this beautiful 'baby boy cake' for the occasion.

Tracy, one of our Commercial  Account  Managers, is a long-term employee of Munsey & Brazil, and she will be greatly missed when on maternity leave.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH!

"There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go."

Greetings:

Make no mistake: We all make mistakes, because we are human.
Having a healthy fear of making mistakes can be a good thing. It can help to improve our professional and personal lives. On the other hand, there are people with many great ideas that fear risking that their project or idea will fail. The good news is that we are not our mistakes, and when we make them, we get the lesson, so that we don't have to repeat the class.

At Cross Insurance, we don't expect you to know all of the ins and outs of your protection options, as that is our job. We want to make sure that you are avoiding The 6 Worst Insurance Mistakes People Make, so that you are protected - while saving money at the same time. Call us today about any potential coverage oversights (mistakes) that you may have detected for yourself in this article, or with any of your questions about the current protection updates here in our October newsletter. While you're at it, be sure to check out our Octoberfest Open House invitation below!

As the legendary singer Johnny Cash once said, "You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space."

Very best regards,
Randy Eifert & David Haley

HOW MUCH IS YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY

REALLY WORTH?

Many people don't think they have a lot of value in their personal property. Sure, there's the big-screen TV, laptop or tablet computer, and maybe the home theater system, but the rest is just clothes, furniture, tools, dishes, and stuff. Most of it will probably end up in the garbage or at a garage sale. Jean O'Rourke, our Personal Lines Account Manager, would like you to be aware of what we, as insurance agents learn. After a loss (when policyholders compile a list of their damaged and destroyed property and what it would take to replace it) they often find the cost stunning. We don't want you to discover that you were underinsured, especially when it's too late.  Read on to make sure that you are protected from any gaps in your coverage. (Please scroll down.)

To make sure your current insurance covers the true value of your possessions, call us at 603-524-2425 or email Jean  or any of our Personal Trusted Advisors.  Do it now, before you suffer a serious real loss. You'll be glad you did!

    NH DEPARTMENT OF LABOR CHANGES:

New Rules for Safety Programs &

What Constitutes Employee Vs.

Independent Contractor

Recently, the New Hampshire Department of Labor (DOL) issued new rules as it relates to establishing safety programs and what constitutes an employee vs. an independent contractor for New Hampshire employers.

The Safety Program rule, which takes effect on January 1, 2013, makes it easier on New Hampshire small businesses to comply as well as lowers the penalty for those who are not in compliance. Wayne Davis, our Commercial Specialist, would like you to be aware of the summarized changes as follows:

  • The number of employees has increased from 10 or more employees to 15 or more employees before an employer must have a written safety program filed with NH DOL
  • Safety plans must be updated and filed from a biennially filing on January 1 to every two years.
  • Joint safety committees must be established if more than 15 employees which is increased from 5 or more employees.
  • Penalties have been lowered from $1,000 to $250.

The employee vs. independent contractor rule (effective 8/6/12) requires a mandatory posting at the place of employment and now uses seven new criteria to establish if a worker is an employee or not.

For more detailed information about both new rules, please visit the NH DOL web site,  or call or  email Wayne or any of our  Commercial advisors today.
